New Landlord ID Croatia: What Krk Hosts Need to Know

Booking.com and Airbnb will soon ask for a new state registration number. What does that mean for holiday rental owners on Krk? The facts, without the panic.

Landlord Registration Number
Facts Instead of Panic in Croatia

The rumour mill is in full swing: many owners of holiday apartments on the island of Krk are currently worried because, according to media reports, booking platforms such as Booking.com and Airbnb will soon demand a new state registration number. We shed some light on the matter, put the legal situation into perspective and explain why you can still stay relaxed for now.

Two Numbers You Should Know

In Croatia, we currently need to draw a strict line between two completely different numbers:

1. The OIB (Tax Number)

The Osobni identifikacijski broj (OIB) is the legal foundation. Without it, you cannot legally rent out property in Croatia. It is issued by the tax authority and is mandatory in order to obtain your official rental permit (Rješenje). If you have these documents, you are currently completely on the safe side.

2. The New Landlord ID (from Early 2027)

Due to a new EU regulation, platforms will in future have to ask you for a new state registration number in order to stop illegal rentals. The fear that your listings will be deleted at short notice is unfounded, however – Croatia has not even finished building the technical infrastructure for this number yet.

Where Do I Apply for the New Number?

The most important answer for all landlords is: Right now, you cannot apply for this number anywhere yet! The Croatian Ministry of Tourism is only just building a digital system. According to current information, the responsible authorities are expected to have this system ready at the earliest in early 2027.

Once the portal goes live, landlords who are already legally registered (i.e. who have an OIB and a Rješenje) should presumably be able to generate their new ID number with no bureaucratic hassle via the existing guest registration system eVisitor.

💡 All Clear for Your Rental on Krk

Lean back. As long as you officially register your guests and hold a valid rental permit, you do not need to take any action at the moment. The local tourist boards (Turistička zajednica) will automatically notify all registered landlords as soon as the new system launches in early 2027.
